Everyone remembers their first love... This blog is a collection of WWII letters sent during the year 1945 by a young Marine to Franie, the girl on the front porch. Letters will be posted as they "arrive". Wick began writing to Franie in 1944. The early letters can be found by visiting the blog "The Girl on the Front Porch 1944".

July8, 1945 " Without Love, A Tracey and Hepburn Movie"
"Hello Franie"
"Looking at the postmark on your latest- 25th- sorta brings to mind how fast time passes 'cause ah haven't written much lately. Seems like you understand though and am glad you do. Not much to tell you...except it wont be this summer that we'll see each other again. Would very very much like to take you to Beverly Beach...but we'll have to wait."
"Aw Yeah, Johnny (brother) has a junior and all is okay with everybody.and he thinks he ought to be getting out soon. ..."
"Hey Fran, it's warm here too , but no swimmin' , water's sorta scarce as it hasn't rained for over a month; mud gave way to dust long ago...Clouds are few and far between making for some very nice evenings with stars all over the place - makes me restless sometimes, wonder why? wouldn't be needing you maybe."
"Movie was okay last night even though it was "Without Love" with Tracey & Hepburn. We got a kick out of it as there were some pretty good remarks all the way through; would've been swell to see it with you 'cause Fran doesn't miss much either."
...me too!,
Wick
